2026 Term 2 – Junior Development Program

Focus: Preparing riders for Junior Tours & State Championships
Themes: Race readiness, bunch‑riding confidence, tactical awareness, safe handling skills, and progressive intensity development.


Week 1 – Thursday 23 April

Objectives:

  • Set up new riders safely
  • Refresh fundamental skills
  • Introduce controlled intensity work

Session Overview:

  • Warm‑up with form and cadence work
  • Rotating skill stations focusing on cornering, braking control, and group awareness
  • Age‑appropriate efforts including short paceline work, sprint timing, and basic race‑simulation elements
  • Cool‑down with relaxed cadence focus

Week 2 – Thursday 30 April

Objectives:

  • Build on Week 1 handling skills
  • Increase coordination and timing in small groups
  • Introduce more structured efforts

Session Overview:

  • Warm‑up with technique emphasis
  • Skill rotations including cornering progression and controlled braking
  • Group‑based efforts tailored to age and ability
  • Progressive aerobic/anaerobic intervals for older riders
  • Cool‑down and preparation for CX event that weekend

Week 3 – Thursday 7 May

Objectives:

  • Apply skills under mild fatigue
  • Develop sprint timing and positioning
  • Reinforce safe group movement

Session Overview:

  • Warm‑up with cadence and form
  • Cornering and U‑turn practice for all groups
  • Layered effort sets including controlled accelerations, short sprints, and group pacing
  • Cool‑down and reminders for upcoming race weekend

Week 4 – Thursday 14 May

Objectives:

  • Time‑trial pacing awareness
  • Individual performance benchmarking
  • Controlled race‑pace exposure

Session Overview:

  • Warm‑up with technique refresh
  • Timed TT for all riders (age‑appropriate distances)
  • Pacing‑based intervals to reinforce even effort distribution
  • Cool‑down and preparation for Metros events
