Here are some photos from Round 3
There was some die hard racing at Round 3 of the Nicol Jackson Women's Series held at Lakeside Raceway on August 11th.  The westerly winds made for smaller fields on the day - but overall the Women's Series has been another HUGE success with 104 entries recieved over the 3 rounds.  On hand on Saturday to present prizes to round 3 competitors was Jim Collins from Aspley Bike Hub - and we thank Jim for his ongoing support of this event.  We were also most fortunate to have on hand Neil Jackson (Nicol's husband), who spoke candidly about Nicol's ongoing journey with Motor Neurone's Disease and her love for competitive cycling.  We are proud that this series has become a vehicle honour a woman like Nicol, and HPRW along with all those who have competed this year wish Nicol, Neil and their family all the best for the journey that lays ahead.
In chilly conditions on Saturday A Grade saw a 3 rider breakaway survive for most of the race (which was tough in the wind) - with the Prime won by Simone Grounds and the win ultimately going to Jessica Toghill,  Rachel Edwards from Uni came in 3rd and Lauren Lever riding for MB cycles came in 4th.
B Grade ladies had a tough job to reel in the lead that Dyane Hannan from Data 3 Racing had heading into this race, however Sally Duncome from the Lifecycle armada gave it a good crack.  HPRW rider Lisa Deneen sprinted hard for the line to take out 3rd edging out Karen McPhail-Bell from Logan whose legs had already delivered her a win for the Prime.
As C & D Grade fields were smaller this round, no Preme's were awarded but the smaller fields also meant there was no where to hide from the westerley winds.  Laura Riston from Ffast took out the win C grade with Maggie Egan from HPRW taking out 2nd place.  Some new recruits in D grade were all smiles with Louise Broadfoot from HPRW taking the win from Lyn Bridge and Helen Stark taking out 3rd after coming back from injury.
The overall series winners each took home a $50 Cash Bonus and these went to:
  • Balmoral's Simone Grounds in A grade on 39 points
  • Dyane Hannan from Ffast's Data 3's Racing team in B grade on 36 points
  • Laura Ritson from Ffast in C grade on 42 points
  • HPRW star recruit Lyn Bridge in D grade.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our event partners - Vault Accountants, Boomtime, Graf-X, ActivCycle Coaching, Aspley Bike Hub, Cycle Physio and the University of Qld Cycling Club and Vittoria Coffee for their commitment to women's cycling and their support of this event.  Please remember to support them back when you get the chance.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank HPRW club volunteers, marshalls and commissaires for their ongoing committment to increasing female participation in cycling and for getting behind this much needed initiative.
We are already looking forward to next year's event - and are open to any ideas you may wish to throw on the table that may improve your racing experience.  Let us know your feedback so that we can endeavour to tailor the event to better suit your needs to ensure that it remains a regular feature on the Qld racing calendar.
Ride safely and take care on the roads
Cheers the team @ HPRW

It seems like the girls have taken inspiration from the Tour and the Olympics and
harnessed this for their performance in the ITT!!!  We saw some great times and
results delivered across the grades on a chilly morning in the beautiful Samford
valley for Round 2 of the HPRW Women's Series.  We were very fortunate to
have Vittoria Coffee on hand to help warm away the winter chills - and I am happy
to say that just over $140 was raised for charity - so thank you to all those who
chipped in for charity and had a coffee on Vittoria.
We had 37 competitors rock up to ride - and this is a great showing for a
challenging course.  We took on board some feedback from competitors last
year - and shortened the course to 20 klm, however this did not take out any of
the hills - so it was still hard right from the start.  Congratulations to the winners
of each grade who were rewarded with Activ Cycling Coaching memberships and
well done to  those who placed.  For those who did not get on the podium we
threw in a few random prizes to help ease their pain.
The leader board has seen a few changes now and this will make the final round
very interesting - so be sure to lock in the date - Saturday August 11th and head
out to Lakeside.
See you on the road!!
Karen - Women's Captain

2012 Individual Time Trial Championship Results - revised. Times have been revised for:
10 Andy Patten (sorry Andy the revised time puts you outside the course record now)
12 Taylor Charlton
20 Brynley Abad
Thanks to all all volunteers today who worked together like a super record 11 groupset (ok like Di2
for shimano fans) which meant we had the results almost as soon as the last rider finished. Thanks to Gaz,
Terry, Laurie, Pete, Karen, the entire Dutton clan, Robert, Scott and Tim for various duties. Your help is greatly
appreciated by all

Handicap Road Race - Elimbah - Saturday 7th July 2012

This is how I saw it from the lead car. Soon after half way through the first lap after the turnaround, 2 riders got away over the hills on Powell Rd, getting up to 40 seconds ahead along Twin View Rd where there was a heavy and windy shower. 3km later it was down to 20 secs, and then by the turnaround at the end of lap one they had 10 seconds. Soon after the turnaround they were caught, the lead bunch now consisting of  around 12 riders.
The third group who left 4 minutes behind GO had caught the two leading groups and formed a strong group including  Paul Worrall and Brittany Dutton from the 2 min group. This group stayed together and looked like most were pulling turns. There were a few stragglers riding on their own and then 3 minutes behind was the 5th group (9 mins) and the combined chopping block and scratch group were 7 mins behind the leaders.
On the second lap there were a few more showers and windy conditions, at at the last turn around (46km mark) there were 2 riders 1m30 behind the lead pack of 12, then 8 riders mostly from the 9 minute group at 2 mins behind, a few solo riders or 2 together and then scratch/chopping block 5 minutes behind.
The first 4 all came from the strong group of 12, Paul and Brittany doing very well to finish strongly with them. The 9 minute group finished around 1m50s behind the winners with scratch arriving 3m14s with a fastest time by Gary Kristensen.
