Coach Jim’s Term 2 Outline

In term 1 our focus was on building aerobic endurance, riding in groups and bike handling skills. We will be continuing to practice these skills in term 2 and we will introduce sessions designed to improve speed on the bike and to teach riders how to improve their sprinting.  Some specific skills that we will work on will include one handed riding, cornering, and track stands. The Tuesday skills sessions will continue to be game based.  Thursday sessions will have several weeks devoted to time trail skills in addition to the speed and sprinting sessions.

Front and rear lights are required on all bikes at training in term 2.  Please ensure that the lights are charged.

Introducing Crit Cross

Crit Cross is designed with fun and skill-building in mind, this innovative race format combines elements of traditional cyclocross on a flat grass track with obstacles suitable for junior cyclists on normal road bikes. Unlike traditional cyclocross courses with challenging terrains, Crit Cross is accessible to riders of all levels, making it perfect for beginner cyclist aged from 7-12 years old.

Key Features

  1. Fun and Skill-Based Racing: Crit Cross focuses on skill development and enjoyment. Riders will navigate through a series of obstacles strategically placed along the grass track, testing their agility, balance, and bike handling skills.
  2. Suitable for Road Bikes: One of the standout features of Crit Cross is its compatibility with normal road bikes. This eliminates the need for specialized equipment, making it easier for junior cyclists to participate and enjoy the sport without additional expenses.
  3. Safe and Controlled Environment: Safety is our top priority. Crit Cross events are organized in controlled environments with appropriate safety measures in place, ensuring that riders can enjoy the thrill of racing while parents can have peace of mind.
  4. Skill Development: Crit Cross helps junior cyclists hone their bike handling skills, improve their agility, and build confidence on the saddle.
  5. Fun and Excitement: With its fast-paced action, Crit Cross promises an adrenaline-pumping experience that will keep young riders engaged and entertained.
  6. Inclusive Participation: Crit Cross welcomes riders of all skill levels, promoting inclusivity and sportsmanship among junior cyclists.

Crit Cross is a new type of race which will be part of the Juniors Super League event.
