2019 Interclub Series Round 3 Results and Overall Points We Won! Firstly, a huge thank you to Gary, Matt and the Sunshine Coast Cycling Club for hosting the final round of the Interclub Series at North Arm this morning. The morning’s racing was hotly contested and, to the best of my knowledge, went off without incident. It was my first time racing at North Arm and it really is a great course.   We had a small group of motivated and committed Hamilton members make the trip North to defend our...

Vale Nicol Jackson

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Nicol Jackson, our friend and long term HPRW member.

Nicol always lined up for as many events as possible at all our races as well as open events such as the Team Time Trial, acted as club social coordinator even opening up her home for a club social function, and provided sponsorship as well as the Neil Jackson Plumbing annual award for volunteers.

Our thoughts are with her husband Neil and her family and friends.

The funeral will be held this Friday 7th Sept at  Lakeview Chapel, 400 Albany Creek Road, Bridgeman Downs at 11:00am.

Clubhouse Approval

The Council has approved the development application and lease for our new HPRW Clubhouse at the Nundah Criterium Circuit.  So it's time to get serious with construction!

The club executive has decided to create a sub-committee to oversee the construction of the building and are calling 'expressions of interest' from club members who wish to nominate. The skills of other members and supporters will be required from time to time; the building subcommittee will co-opt persons with such skills according to need.  In particular we need the following expertise:

a. Project management/builder (we need someone to oversee the whole job).

b. Electrician

c. Plumber

d. Government funding grants co-ordinator.

e. Building Certifier

f. Engineer (hydraulic)

g. Surveyer

Thank you to members who have already offered their skills/assistance.

So if you can help, please send a note to  for the club executive's consideration.

The club executive would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our Vice President Graeme Spender for his architectural assistance and Daly International for their work on the Council development approval process.

Here are the preliminary plans for our new clubhouse as well as Council's Approval Package documentation.

HPRW are sad to report the passing of life member Bill McIntosh. The service is to be held
at Gregson & Weight, 5 Gregson Place, Caloundra 54911559 at 11am Wednesday 24th
August, followed by burial service at Pinnaroo Cemetery 2pm. (info from Harold Whitehead

Jack Carter awarded Life Membership of Cycling Queensland

At the CQ AGM on Saturday 12th March Jack Carter was awarded Life Membership of that association.

Congratulations Jack on a great career in the sport and the recognition that has come your way.

Jack is also a Life Member of HPRW.

Our thoughts are with our club commissaire John Madigan, who has been hit by a car last thursday night near the PA hospital and has suffered a broken hip (again!). Apparently a car turned right in front of him and clipped his front wheel and John fell hard on his hip that already has a plate in it. We all know John’s fighting ability to get back on a bike after a fight with a car.  Hope to see you back soon John.

UPDATE: John has been transferred to the Mater Private and is hopefully undergoing surgery today Wed 18th Aug.

HPRW member and Team Mainline rider Andrew Grady is riding the Tour De Cure from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast in support of a cure for cancer.

Here's a message from Andrew:

Cancer is one of the world's greatest takers of life. Cancer does not discriminate. It affects
men, women and children alike and it impacts everyone around them.

The Tour de Cure is an annual cycling event that raises much needed funds
for Cancer research, prevention and patient support programs.  This year
the Tour will see 90 riders & supporters travel over 1400km from Sydney
to the Sunshine Coast for 10 days in May.

I’ve signed up to complete the Tour de Cure in support of all my family and friends that
have been touched by Cancer. After personal diagnosis with Melanoma at 25, I realised that
Cancer really can affect anyone.  Too many, too young.

I’ll be doing the pedalling, but one of my main inspirations is my wife’s father, who has
been fighting pancreatic cancer for 3 years.  Thankfully after surgery and countless chemo
sessions ‘Poppy’ is still able to walk his 18 holes of golf, and watch his grand-children
grow up. Ours is just one of many stories where Cancer research and support have helped
a whole family.

We’ve set a huge fundraising target of $10 000, so any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated.

Donations over $2 are tax-deductible and can be made at my Tour de Cure page.

Thank you for your support!
Cheers, Andrew

Here's a message from Jeff Brissy who has just opened a cafe at Strathpine. VIP customers get free coffee right? :)

I am a cyclist (I ride with NRG) and am about to open a
coffee shop (on Monday) in Strathpine. I wanted to invite your club
through you to come along and enjoy queens street cafe style food and
coffee in the suburbs. Would be great to see some cyclists at the cafe
supporting a fellow cyclist. Anyway thanks for your support ( We will of
course look after club members as VIP clients :).

The cafe is on the corner of Gympie and Cremzow roads (in the UP TILES
Complex) Strathpine.

Cheers

quite well, albeit slowly and he's three weeks into the treatment. Here's a couple of fetching shots Ron sent.

A word of warning - don't scroll down if you don't want an eyeful of Ron's butt!!! :)

Mick Young is leaving this Saturday 5th September on the Smiling for Smiddy Ride. Depart time is
6:15am from the UQ Aquatic Centre at St Lucia and there is a free breakfast and you can ride
with Phil Anderson to Dayboro.

Here's a message from Mick about the the Challenge:

Smiddy Banner

From the 5th -12th September 2009, myself and 49 other cyclists and support crew
will tackle a gruelling 1600 kilometre cycle through Queensland in only eight days.
It's our way to raise funds for cancer research and remember our mate Adam Smiddy
who lost his life to melanoma.

More than 100,000 Australians are diagnosed with cancer each year and too many
good lives are lost to this devastating disease. Sadly, my father lost his battle with
Melanoma on the 17th of June this year. This has further strengthened my passion
to make a difference. I invite you to join with me in the fight against cancer. This year
I have set myself a personal target of raising $10,000.00 and seek your support in
reaching this total. All donations go directly towards world-class research which will
one day save lives.

If you have a spare moment, please take a look at our web site www.smiddy.org.au
where you can learn more about the 2009 Bottlemart Smiling for Smiddy Challenge.
See also a short video featuring footage of last years ride with commentary from
Olympic Gold Medallist Duncan Armstrong, a fellow Smiddy Challenge rider.

I welcome you all to join us at the UQ Aquatic Centre for a free breakfast (from
5.00am) prior to  the "Grand Depart" (6.15am)  and then riding with us to Dayboro.
It's not every day that you get to ride with a cycling legend (apart from me) and Sat
the 5th is no exception as the first Aussie to win the yellow jersey, Phil Anderson, will
be joining us for the first 4 days of the ride.

In anticipation of some huge donations from you all, (which can be made at
http://www.everydayhero.com.au/mick_young ) I thank you.

Should you have any queries or comments, please contact me.

Regards
Mick Young

We have a desperate shortage of qualified Level 1 and Level 2 Commissaires which could affect our ability to conduct racing. Please consider undertaking the level 1 CQ commissaire's workshop on Saturday 22nd August - the club will cover all costs.

Full details on on the flyer.

Similarly the club will fully fund anyone who wished to undertake a CQ coaching course.

Please contact Wayne Wilson if you wish to become qualified as a coach or commissaire.

HPRW member Eric Dousi has been in hospital after an accident in Gladstone where he works. Here's a message passed on to Sean Harrison from Eric's wife.

Saturday morning he was riding in a bunch of 10~11 riders.  A motorist bore down on the last rider (a police officer of all things) being aggressive, yelling abuse, using his horn and basically menacing the riders.  after a period, he accelerates to the front of the line where Eric was leading out the group and basically runs Eric off the road striking him with his car.

Eric has sustained some serious injuries including broken bones, head trauma and naturally abrasions.  he is still in hospital in Gladstone, but hoping to be able to come home to Brisbane by the weekend. The driver has been arrested and the car impounded.

If you want to send a message to Eric via the website click this link. Get well soon mate!
Michael Kakanis from Bond University is looking for A grade levels cyclists to assist in his University Research. Full details are on this flyer.
